Disney Veteran Launches Web3 Game Studio with Marvel and Star Wars Talent

A group of notable figures from the film and gaming industries have come together to establish a prominent Web3 games publisher in the United Arab Emirates. The new venture, called Galactic Entertainment Publishing, is the first subsidiary of the parent company Galactic Group. Their initial project, known as PlanetQuest, has been under active development since 2022. Galactic Entertainment CEO Loren Roosendaal revealed that although the game has not been officially released, it already has a large user base: “PlanetQuest passport holders consist of over 300,000 connected wallets, with more than 200,000 holding one or more PlanetQuest NFTs.”

The team working on PlanetQuest includes former employees from renowned companies such as Disney, Warner Bros., Activision-Blizzard, and Epic. These individuals have contributed to various successful franchises, spanning movies like , and popular games like Fortnite, Call of Duty, and Star Wars: Jedi Survivor. Jon McCoy, the chief creative officer of Galactic Entertainment, has an extensive background in producing AAA Hollywood blockbusters. He expressed that his work with Galactic Group surpasses his previous experiences: “While no initial attempt at something new is flawless, it has been incredible to collaborate with fans and create a sci-fi universe in a way that has never been done before. Working on films like Star Wars, Blade Runner, and Marvel movies fulfilled many of my childhood dreams, but there is nothing quite like interacting and building with fans from day one.”

PlanetQuest, the company’s flagship title, is set in a universe reminiscent of Star Wars and offers players the opportunity to own and trade various digital assets. These assets range from spaceships to entire planets and can be used in the game or sold/traded with other players using the native currency. Galactic has plans to release tie-in media for PlanetQuest, including novels, comic books, and another undisclosed game, as reported by VentureBeat.
