The National Taipei University of Technology (NTUT) has forged a strategic partnership with the cryptocurrency company Tether to bolster blockchain and digital asset education. On June 19, the institution, widely recognized as Taipei Tech, announced this collaboration aimed at enriching educational offerings in the region. The initiative is designed to endow students with thorough knowledge and practical expertise in blockchain technologies.
This partnership will also enhance student comprehension of cryptocurrencies and digital assets, including Bitcoin (BTC) and stablecoins like Tether’s own stablecoin (USDT). The cornerstone of this collaboration is a program dubbed “Blockchain & Digital Asset,” initially launched within NTUT’s College of Management. This program has seen swift enrollment, with over 110 students, making it one of the most sought-after courses in the university’s Information and Finance department.
Given its initial success, this program has caught the attention of other universities, prompting them to explore similar collaborations with Tether. The curriculum is meticulously crafted to prepare students for responsible and informed participation in the ever-evolving digital asset landscape.
NTUT and Tether aim to provide a well-rounded understanding of digital asset technologies. Beyond theoretical knowledge, the program emphasizes practical skills, enabling students to independently analyze the validity of cryptocurrency information. This critical thinking skillset will aid students in identifying scams and understanding the inherent risks associated with digital assets.
The curriculum also covers the volatility of speculative assets, scam avoidance, compliance procedures, and insights into potential career paths within the digital asset industry. According to Paolo Ardoino, Tether’s CEO, the initiative’s ultimate goal is to empower students, thereby amplifying digital asset adoption in Taiwan. By collaborating with prestigious institutions like NTUT, Tether aspires to mold the next generation of blockchain professionals in the region.
Stablecoins remain a hotly debated topic in the cryptocurrency sector, with Tether’s USDT staying at the forefront of discussions. On June 18, Uphold, a digital asset exchange, announced it would delist several stablecoins, including Tether’s USDT, for its European users. This move aims to ensure compliance with stringent local regulations. Other stablecoins to be delisted include Dai (DAI), Frax Protocol (FRAX), Gemini dollar (GUSD), Pax dollar (USDP), and TrueUSD (TUSD).
Despite regulatory challenges, recent data indicates a significant increase in stablecoin transfer volumes, which have surged 16 times over the past four years. This growth is interpreted by some industry analysts as indicative of broader crypto adoption and sector maturation. Jeremy Allaire, the CEO of Circle, which operates the stablecoin USDC, has expressed growing optimism regarding the future of crypto and stablecoins. Allaire envisions that stablecoins could constitute 10% of global money supply within the next decade.
