Greg Solana: From BAYC Co-Creator to Yuga Labs CEO

Greg Solano, one of the creators of the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) nonfungible token (NFT) collection, has been appointed as the new CEO of Yuga Labs. Solano, who is also one of the founders of the company, will be replacing Daniel Alegre, who took on the role of CEO in April of last year. Solano expressed his excitement about taking on this position and stated that under his leadership, Yuga Labs will focus on building partnerships and expanding BAYC’s utility. He also revealed the creation of a new subsidiary called “BAYC LLC,” which will be responsible for all BAYC-related matters.

Solano emphasized the importance of the BAYC community and its contributions to the brand’s success. He mentioned past achievements such as ApeFest and Made by Apes, and expressed a desire to unleash the potential of the BAYC team at Yuga Labs to execute their vision more effectively. Solano also mentioned the firm’s upcoming metaverse project, Otherside, and the need for more involvement from the community to ensure its successful development.

To engage with the community, Yuga Labs plans to host an event called “Apes Come Home” to allow fans to playtest Otherside and provide feedback. Solano promised better communication regarding the game in the future. Alegre, who previously held executive positions at Activision Blizzard, thanked the Yuga Labs team for his time as CEO and expressed optimism about the company’s future.

The news of Solano’s appointment as CEO resulted in a nearly 10% increase in the floor prices of BAYC, with its value reaching $69,750, or 23.85 Ether (ETH) at the time of publication, according to NFT Price Floor. Solano co-founded Yuga Labs with Wylie Aronow, Zeshan Ali, and Kerem Atalay in February 2021. Aronow, who is currently facing health issues, is contributing to the company in a limited capacity.
