Hirsch, who recently retired from the SEC, informed that rumors associating him with the Solana-based memecoin platform are unfounded. He categorically stated, “The claim is false. I have not announced my next role, but it is not with a meme/coin platform.”
The false information appears to have either been a misunderstanding or an intentional act of trolling. On June 17, social media was abuzz with rumors that Hirsch had joined pump.fun. This misinformation originated from a witty social media post by the platform, which suggested Hirsch had taken on a new role as head of trading. The post humorously claimed that after extensive discussions with an individual named Alon, Hirsch had felt unfulfilled by his regulatory work and sought a new career path.
The satirical post continued with exaggerations, stating that Hirsch had launched over 100 coins himself and embraced his role as a “memelord.” It claimed that he would head pump.fun’s new internal trading desk, which purportedly would oversee the launch of more than 1,000 coins per day. The playful nature of the post led to unwarranted speculation and false congratulations from notable entities such as Binance.
In response to the confusion, Binance’s team initially extended their congratulations to Hirsch but later removed their publication, which only intensified the rumors. This incident serves as a reminder of how quickly misinformation can spread in the fast-paced world of social media and cryptocurrency.
