Watford FC Launches 10% Digital Equity Offering
Watford Football Club, a well-known professional English football team, is launching a sale of digital equity representing around 10% of its shares. This initiative is in collaboration with Republic, a digital investment platform. This historic football club, with a legacy spanning nearly 150 years, will make the equity sale available on both the Republic platform and Seedrs, Republic’s European branch.
In an announcement shared, it was indicated that the funds gathered from the sale will be allocated to the team’s training programs, especially focused on the men’s first team. The funds will support the recruitment of new players, enhance coaching, and further develop the Watford FC brand. By offering digital equity shares through Republic, Watford FC aims to engage a more diverse group of investors, including their fan base, by giving them an opportunity to own part of the club.
Watford FC plans to incorporate fan token trading in the future. Investors who purchase digital equity will receive tokens and access exclusive offers. According to Scott Duxbury, chairman and CEO of Watford FC, these fan tokens will be tradeable in the future, providing “true ownership” for the fans. Duxbury expressed pride in being the first major English football club to offer this type of ownership to a broad range of investors, including loyal supporters.
