Rabbit AI Refutes Coffeezilla's NFT Scam Allegation
Recently, the artificial intelligence firm Rabbit refuted several accusations made by YouTube investigator Stephen Findeisen, also known as “Coffeezilla.” The company maintained that it had been transparent about its rebranding efforts and its shift towards AI technology. On May 22, Findeisen accused Rabbit of being involved in a nonfungible token (NFT) scam and trying to hide its involvement. He pointed to the company’s name change from Cyber Manufacture Co. to Rabbit, which seemed to go unnoticed by many. Findeisen also claimed that Jesse Lyu, Rabbit AI’s founder and CEO, made numerous promises to the supporters of the Gama NFT project but failed to follow through.
Findeisen did not stop there; he also criticized Rabbit’s new AI product, the Rabbit R1. He described it as “overhyped,” likening it to the Gama NFT project, which he labeled as a “scam.” In response, Rabbit sent a statement to asserting that the Rabbit and Gama projects were distinct initiatives under the same corporate umbrella. They pointed to a tech media article from 2023, which had previously disclosed that Rabbit was rebranded from Cyber Manufacturing Co.
Rabbit claimed that the majority of its workforce joined after this rebranding took place. According to the spokesperson, over 80% of Rabbit’s current employees were onboarded after December 2023, which was several months post-rebranding. They emphasized that the Gama project had already come to an end when it became open-sourced. Addressing the accusations specifically, the spokesperson said, “Jesse strongly disputes Coffeezilla’s allegations that he and the Gama team were not forthcoming about the open-sourcing of the project, which had investor support, and his refocusing on AI hardware.”
The spokesperson added that Lyu has been a serial entrepreneur involved in multiple ventures, including the Gama project. They noted, “It’s a project he has talked about extensively in the past, but it concluded before he started Rabbit. In the world of business, many companies decide to pivot.” This message suggests that changing directions is not uncommon in the tech industry.
Regarding the criticism of the Rabbit R1 product, the spokesperson highlighted that they have been gathering use cases and feedback from users daily. They reported that approximately 10,000 users who had received the Rabbit R1 had created over 600,000 interactions within the past thirty days. This data was presented as evidence to counter Findeisen’s claim that the product was overhyped.
The company mentioned that it has been proactive in responding to user feedback. Over the last month, they rolled out updates based on this input and have plans to introduce new features soon. These updates are part of Rabbit’s ongoing effort to refine and improve its offerings.
Through these statements, Rabbit aimed to distance itself from Findeisen’s accusations and showcase itself as an evolving company committed to innovation. By emphasizing their recent rebranding and the continuous influx of new employees, Rabbit aimed to demonstrate that it was a forward-looking organization with a focus on AI.
